Objects.
I chose objects because I liked the look of the work of the photographers on the list. I also thought that it would be good to choose and also a topic where I can take photographs of various objects and that I could do lots of different experiments. Below is a selection of photographs from the various artists from the exam paper, and there are lots of things that I could do like still life, photographs, photograms, and taking photographs on the light box for example. I'm looking forward to experimenting.
First experiment
This was my first experiment using some flowers which I picked from around the school. I thought that I would like to experiment with an organic form such as plant and flowers as my first response. This is because I'd like to photograph the leaves and plants close up so that I can capture all the detail. I'd like to focus on the details such as lines, curves and texture. I was quite pleased with how it turned out. I like the different tones and the marks that were made by the flowers. This image wasn't fixed so the colours changed, and it looks natural.
I wanted do more experiments using the photographic paper. I put the some flowers on it and I left for 2 weeks. When I first saw photos I really liked them, but 2 of them had too much negative space. I really like these photographs because they show more details and the shapes look like tree the colour shade is pink\purple mixture and I like how the darker shade shows that flower on it. If I was going to do this again then I would add different types of flowers, use more different angles and I want to focus more on the line and the shape and fill the frame with the image of the object.
I took more photographs of flowers outside of School. I tied to take close up but my phone won't stay focus it keeps going burry but I trying my best to take good pictures. I think that they would look better with lighting from the studio and I'd like to take photographs which are close up. I'd like to improve them so I will take some more in school to improve. I would like to use the studio in school to make these improvements.
Edward Weston.
Edward Weston's photographs are quite striking as he uses, natural organic objects. I find interesting because he photographs single pieces of food. The images look more like still life objects as he has a simple set up with a black background with studio lighting. , same background but different objects.
The first thing I see when I look at this images is the shape of the pepper. Im drawn to the shape because it looks interesting as it looks like a continuous line. I think that I am drawn to the shapes because of the way in which it has been photographed. On looking closer, I can see that the pepper oil placed in a bowl as at the bottom of the image I can see curved lines, it is photographed close-up so that why I can see the detail. I can also see that the pepper is lit by artificial light. I can see that because the light shines on the pepper and makes the skin look shiny. To me, because of the way it is photographed and the way it is lit is looks more like a sculpture that could be made out of something that is soft. The image is zoom in on the object and this makes me focus on the pepper and I can see more details. It is photographed in black and white and that makes me look at the different tones within the pepper. When I look at this I can tell that the skin is smooth as the lighting emphasises this. The image makes me feel anxious as I get the feeling of being trapped because of how it is closely cropped.

I took 25 photos as a response to Edward Weston. I put the little flowers together first so I could take close up pictures. I was focused on the lighting because the lighting shows more details and looked natural. I tried my best to show lots of details, the close up and angles . My favourite Pictures I took of is pink single flower because you can see lots of detail in there there are no shadows behind it and you can see the colour so clearly the way lighting bright up the flowers.
I chose these images as they fill up the space within the frame and they show the detail. Using the studio and the lights from school helped. a lot. I like the fact they are close up and the fact they have a plain background
I pick 6 best photos and I edit them to9 blackened white. I use the brightness so show more details of flowers, I used contrast to show even more details then I used exposure to change the lighting and lastly I used the other to darker the background to stand out the flower.
Colin Wilson
The first thing I look at in this photo is the hole in the rock. I love the way the rock curves and the shape of it. The rock looks more natural and cold and the background is all plain black and this shows the curve of the rock.
The rock look old but new same time and it look like rough also dark and light you can all there is camera is closer up or zoom in. |
Albert chong
I like this photo the most because I like the blurry movement, even though he is still at not moving it gives the impression of movement. You can see the chair through the cloth. I like the objects on the grounds and background look like a rock wall and old fashioned. The lighting look like it come from right side shining through him.
The camera position makes it look like the photographer has set the camera on a timer and then he went and got into his position. I think he has taken the picture of himself. This photo is black and white. I like this because the colours make the photo look like it is very old. I don't think the photo shows a lot of emotion. |
Camilli Catrambone
I like her photos because she show people personal stories life and that everyone is different like we like doing something different and theirs own colours. The objects look like old fashioned too and shows the family Portraits.
I did more experiments trying to make less negative space so I added more flowers. They came out good as we can see there is less negative space. There are less dark patches on my photographs and you can see more lines. You can notice that there are more details and you can clearly tell that the photograph is of plants and flowers.
Thing I need;Day 1 and Day 2
I will be bringing glasses of different shapes and different types of rocks. I will be needing a camera light. I will also be needing a white table. I will be experimenting over the 2 days with the glass and rocks and also with the flowers and the photographic paper.
Day 1
I would like to create 2 still life set ups and photograph different objects inspired by the artists that I have looked at.First, I will focus on rocks, I will have a look at the different rocks and pick which rocks I want to use. I will then make sure the lightning is good.
I will then take photos of the rocks.
After I will edit my photos so that they are black and white.
Day 2:
I will use glasses like jars and bottles to help me create work like Colin Wilson.
I will take a photo of the different glasses.
Then I will edit my photos to black and white.
I will then write an evaluation of my photographs.
